My cousin's wife, Michelle Ballan, and her three incredible children, Olivia, Isabella, and Luke, are facing an unimaginable loss following the death of their beloved husband and father, John Formoso, on February 19, 2026.
For over two years, John privately navigated devastating illnesses acquired from toxic exposure decades ago while serving as a Motor Transport/Hazardous Materials Officer in the Marine Corps. Despite agonizing pain throughout the treatments, surgeries, and experimental medications, John never complained and maintained his humor and indomitable spirit. He continued to support his patients and physicians, cheered Luke on at baseball and football, rejoiced in Bella's academic and athletic success, admired Olivia's student teaching and research achievements, and accompanied Michelle to award ceremonies. John's immeasurable love for his family and unwillingness to relent while specialists pursued a cure, allowed him to defy odds. Throughout this time, Michelle lovingly and tirelessly devoted herself to John's care.
His passing has left the family in profound grief. In the wake of this tragedy and financial devastation due to John's extensive medical needs, the children's well-being and future remain the highest priority. To honor John's legacy, our family has established an education fund to support their children. Michelle has requested that a portion of these funds be designated to help establish a scholarship in John's name at Saint Peter's Prep High School.
We humbly ask you to leave a reflection or story about John for his family, and consider a contribution, no matter the size, to provide lasting support for Michelle's and John's aspirations for their children and John's legacy. The outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and colleagues will help them to endure these challenging times ahead.
Visitation:
Saturday, February 28th 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont.
