In Memory of John Braidwood

Hi, our names are Clint and Chad Braidwood. We are the sons of my father, John Braidwood. Dad passed away unexpectedly on February 23rd in Glens Falls, NY. We set up this GOFUNDME page to honor our father and his love for Hickory Hill in Warrensburg, NY.

 

As kids, Dad would pile us and any other neighborhood friends into our Jeep every winter weekend and take the journey north to Hickory Hill from Niskayuna. We would listen to the Rolling Stones' "Hot Rocks" on the way up and sing along. He would notoriously roll down the windows 5 minutes before we arrived in order to get us "used" to the cold elements we would soon be facing. We believe John just enjoyed hearing us scream for him to shut the windows - he was so much fun. On arrival, he would circle donuts in the parking lot, again, finding so much joy in our screams and laughter.

 

He then would get us all dressed in the parking lot and ski with us all day long. Some of our best memories with our father were on Hickory Hill. The packed lunches we ate in the sun-soaked benches outside the lodge, the swishing and swaying of our skis, going up the T-Bar between our father's legs, the shouts of encouragement and support from him and, most of all, the love of skiing that he passed onto us.

 

Currently, Hickory is attempting a resurgence after being closed for several years. John fervently served as President of the Hickory Legacy Foundation board and his son Clint as the Treasurer. The foundation's goal is to open this beloved mountain once again so future generations can experience the family, friends and the love of skiing that Dad shared with us.
