"In Memory of Jim Bell"

Sadly, my good friend and brother in law, Jim Bell, passed away unexpectedly on October 18th after battling both lung and bone cancer. Jim left behind his loving wife Ellen, his mom, his children, another entire family from his wife Ellen’s side, and a huge bunch of friends…

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that everyone who knew Jim, loved him.

He was a rough and tough Bakersfield boy through and through, but once you got past that crusty exterior, he was the kindest and most big-hearted guy I have ever known. He was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold. Jim was also the most generous person I think I have ever known, and he was always buying everyone’s meals at a restaurant, or literally giving you the shirt off of his back if you made the mistake and said it was nice!

Jim didn’t tip toe around things and try and be politically correct. He always called it like he saw it, and you could count on him to be honest and straight forward every time. Jim was like an elemental force of nature and there was no ignoring him! You might not like what you were hearing from him, but you never doubted his sincerity, integrity, or honesty.

Jim and I called each other Brother, and we meant it in the truest form of the word. I can’t tell you how many times we told each other, “I Love You Brother”, and meant it. I am sure there are many of his friends out there that can say the same thing and shared a lot of hugs from “Big Jim”. I am going to really miss my Brother…

Anyone that knew Jim, knew that the two things he loved most in this world were his wife Ellen, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Jim’s sun rose and set with Ellen though, and his passion for motorcycle riding came in a distant second to his devotion and love for his wife. Jim told me many times that Ellen had rescued him from his previous life and elevated him to be the hard working and responsible person we all knew. Jim eventually became a contractor and worked very hard to provide a nice house and life for the love of his life, Ellen. If contracting work got slow, Jim would always do whatever was necessary to put food on the table, whether it would be shoveling dirt or digging ditches, or putting up brand new steel buildings.

Unfortunately, with Jim’s long illness with battling heart problems and cancer, he was not able to work and had been confined to bed for a long time, and it has been very hard for them financially. Jim is gone now and unable to contribute even Social Security money anymore, and Ellen could really use some financial support from Jim’s many friends and family members.

All money raised from this GoFundMe page will go to help pay for Jim’s cremation expenses and for future living expenses for Ellen.   Ellen is the only person who will be able to draw funds from this account.

Please join me in honoring his memory, and contributing to the Jim Bell Memorial Fund.  Feel free to add your photos and stories of Jim Bell to my Facebook page or any other media.
