In memory of Jamie McLean

Monday Oct. 25 2021 will forever be a sad day on the Vancouver Waterfront, For this will be the day ILWU Local 500 lost a true Hold Board legend 34474 Jamie McLean. The McLean family has a lot of history on the Vancouver Waterfront. Jamie's father Bob McLean started first working down here as a casual in the late 60's. Jamie and his brothers all work on the waterfront with Jamie himself being down here for 35 yrs. I remember one of my first shifts on the waterfront was a lashing job with Jamie and after just one shift of sitting in the lunchroom with him (Jamie was let go early ) I knew I could always go to him for advice. Although Jamie looked like a rough and tough guy, he had one of the biggest hearts ❤ and would be the first to stick of up for his brothers and sisters no matter who you were, what you looked like or whether you were a casual or member. As long as you were in the right he would have your back. If you showed him respect, he would always show you respect in return. That is what being a member of the ILWU is all about, to stick up for one another and never leave a fallen brother or sister down. An Injury to One is An Injury to all is our motto and Jamie showed everyone that from day 1. Jamie is leaving behind his lovely wife Germaine and 3 children, Wade, Courtney and Tia. Although nothing will bring our brother back to his family, his brothers and sister of the ILWU can help ease the financial burden we all would suffer if we were to lose a loved one to such a tragedy at a young age. An Injury to One is An Injury to All.
