Obituary for James MacDonald
James MacDonald, 63, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born and raised in Southern California in a proud Navy household, James carried the values of dedication, service, and integrity with him throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Agnes; his children, Anna and Marcin; and his cherished grandchildren, Kenji and Kasia. He also leaves behind his siblings, Lori, Diane, Lisa, and John, and many friends and colleagues who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
James devoted his career to the aerospace industry—a field he was deeply passionate about. He found great joy in his work and immense pride in the progress of space exploration, especially through the innovations at SpaceX.
Outside of work, James loved the simple pleasures of life—spending time at the beach, attending car shows, exploring new restaurants, and sharing good food with loved ones. His warmth, positivity, and genuine spirit touched everyone he met. Even through his illness, James faced each day with courage and a smile, reminding those around him that “everything will be fine.”
A funeral service will be held on December 5, 2025, and all are welcome to attend as we celebrate the life of this remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly welcomes donations to help with funeral arrangements and medical expenses. The MacDonald family extends heartfelt thanks for the many messages, calls, and acts of kindness received during this difficult time.
James will be remembered for his big heart, unwavering optimism, and the love he gave so freely to everyone around him. <3
