In Memory of James Cruz – Supporting His Children’s Future

Honoring a Devoted Father, Son, Union Brother & Advocate for Education

We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of James Cruz — a beloved father, son, loyal friend, and lifelong union brother.

James’s two children, Jada (16) and Miles (14), were the center of his universe. Family was everything to James. He was a hands-on, deeply loving father who never missed a moment to be present in their lives. He was beyond proud of everything they have accomplished and devoted himself to guiding and celebrating them in every season of their lives. His greatest hope was to see them pursue their dreams — and education was always at the heart of that vision.

James was immensely proud to have earned his bachelor’s degree from San José State University, an achievement he worked hard for and carried with deep pride. He believed in the power of education to change lives and wanted nothing more than for Jada and Miles to follow that path — supported with the same determination, love, and opportunity he always gave them.

Beyond being a devoted dad, James made a lasting impact in the labor movement. From union steward to Vice President with CWA Local 9423, he was a fierce advocate for fairness, mentorship, and solidarity. His leadership was grounded in compassion and integrity, and the community he built continues to carry his spirit forward.

The phone calls and messages of love have been endless. While we are still in disbelief at this unimaginable loss, our focus now turns to preparing for Jada and Miles’s future. In honor of James’s memory, we have created this college fund to ensure his greatest dream for his children continues.

Every donation — no matter the amount — will go directly toward their education, helping provide the tools and support they need to succeed, just as James envisioned. Your generosity, prayers, and support mean more than words can express.

All funds donated will be placed directly into 529 College Savings Accounts established for Jada and Miles to ensure their future education is securely provided for.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set but will be announced soon.
