Jaiden was only two days old when he died. Writing those words still feels unreal. He should be here. He should be growing, laughing, and loved for a lifetime — not remembered through fundraising pages and memories.

Jaiden died after becoming seriously unwell with green vomit, a well-known and urgent warning sign in newborn babies. Tragically, this was not acted on as it should have been. The care Jaiden needed was missed, and as a result, we lost him. This loss was preventable — and that truth is something our family will live with forever.

When a baby dies, time suddenly becomes the most precious thing in the world.

I am raising £4,200 through this GoFundMe to fund a cuddle blanket for the RVI CHiPS Team in Newcastle. A cuddle blanket is a special cooling blanket that allows families more precious time with their baby after death — time to hold them, cuddle them, talk to them, introduce them to family, take photos, and create memories that will last forever.

Alongside this GoFundMe, we are also holding a separate fundraiser in Jaiden’s memory. That fundraiser aims to provide:

• Privacy prams to hospitals, allowing families to move through hospital spaces with dignity after the death of their baby

• Memory-making items for the RVI, such as keepsakes that families can treasure forever

• An upgraded camera to help staff capture precious memories for grieving families

However, this GoFundMe page is purely dedicated to funding the cuddle blanket.

If, through our wider fundraising efforts, we are fortunate enough to raise additional funds beyond this target, we will do everything we can to provide more cuddle blankets or further vital resources to support families during the most heartbreaking moments of their lives.

The CHiPS Team (Children’s Hospital in Paediatric Services) support babies, children, and families through some of the most devastating moments imaginable. They care not only for the child, but for parents, siblings, and loved ones with compassion, dignity, and kindness when life changes in an instant.

These moments matter more than anything. They are all parents have.

Without cuddle blankets, families are often forced to say goodbye far too soon. With them, parents are given the gift of time — time to love their baby, even in death, and to say goodbye gently, without being rushed.

Jaiden should have had that time. Every baby should.

This fundraiser is my way of turning unbearable pain into something meaningful. If my grandson’s death can help even one family be met with more compassion, dignity, and time, then Jaiden’s short life continues to make a difference.
