In Memory of Isidro Bello- Family Beyond Blood

To our family, our friends, and kind strangers,
It is with great sorrow that I’m asking for your help in raising money for the funeral expenses of Isidro Bello, a loving father and a very hardworking man. My family and I have gone to several different funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries in an attempt to make his final arrangements, but I’m afraid the prices we were shown are all well beyond our means. Thus, we have decided to humbly ask the community for help.
So far, we have collectively raised about half of the amount required for both the viewing and the burial, and any donations beyond the required amount will be used to pay off the loans that were taken out for that purpose. We would like to have the viewing on Oct.17th, 2019, but it would be postponed until the following week if necessary.
His passing was very sudden for us. Despite having several tumors in his brain that were caused by a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the doctors were optimistic at first; they even went as far as suggesting that there was a good chance of him recovering with surgery and minimal chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the cancer turned out to be more aggressive than anyone had imagined. They gave him the surgery, treated him with chemo, and tried full-brain radiation for three weeks. The battle was hard-fought.
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that he passed away on Monday, October 7th, 2019, less than three months after his initial diagnosis and less than a week after being placed in hospice care. Isidro is survived by various loved ones, including his siblings, his adult children, and his grandchildren. Regretfully, he also leaves behind his two youngest sons: Angel, a 17-year-old young man, and Christopher, a 4-year-old boy.
We are sorry for having to ask, but we would be eternally grateful for any help we can get, as long as you can spare it. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts; words cannot describe how much we sincerely appreciate it.
Thinking back, Isidro and I met completely by chance. The only thing connecting us was a mutual love for soccer. The only reason I showed up to one of his games, in a city I’d never visited, was because a player I barely even knew had invited me to join the team. That’s where Isidro met my mom for the first time. I don’t think neither Isidro nor I ever suspected that our lives would be changed forever because of such a seemingly-small decision. But, I’m glad it happened.
As my coach, he demonstrated kind leadership, passion for the sport, and camaraderie within the team. As the father of 5, he demonstrated compassion, discipline, and a commitment to provide for his family without ever putting his needs before theirs. Though his children came from two separate relationships, his heart was big enough to love them all equally.
Isidro made a huge impact on my family, as well. He helped me take care of them. He was a great role model for my younger brother, Franklin. And, perhaps most importantly, he made my mom very happy, and he made Christopher–my youngest brother, and their only child together– very happy, too.
I feel privileged that he was a part of our family and that I got to know him over the course of seven great years. Though he and I are not actually related, it’s my firm belief that family doesn’t always have to be by blood.
In life, Isidro met and befriended people from all backgrounds and beliefs, building a plethora of wonderful relationships and allowing him to live a life full of laughter and love. As a result, he died peacefully; his room flooded with relatives and people that will always love and cherish his memory after he’s gone– his family beyond blood.
