We are heartbroken to share that our dear friend and beloved coworker, Hugo Hernandez, tragically passed away in an accident on Friday, May 23rd. Hugo was more than just a colleague to us at Lucky’s Malibu, he was family. His ever-present smile, uplifting spirit, and willingness to lend a hand made him a cherished part of our team, especially among those who worked alongside him behind the bar night after night.

Hugo, along with his brother Saul, has been an integral part of Lucky’s for years. Now, in this time of unimaginable loss, we’re coming together as a community to support his family the way he supported all of us; with warmth, care, and generosity.

We’ve set a goal of $15,000 to help cover funeral expenses, including the costs of returning Hugo to his hometown in Mexico, where he will be laid to rest according to his wishes. Any additional funds will go directly to the ongoing care of his two young sons and their mother.

While we at Lucky’s are contributing personally, we’re also leaning on the broader Lucky’s family and community to help us reach this goal. Every donation, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated and will make a meaningful difference.
