In loving memory of Hsuhwa Cheng (鄭旭華).
Our hearts are broken, and our lives are forever changed.
This fundraiser is on behalf of the Cheng family, including his son Jeffrey Cheng, daughter Samantha Cheng, and wife Amy Cheng, who must bear the weight of this loss forever.
Hsuhwa Cheng was a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend to many people. He was a hard worker who thanklessly took on jobs for himself and his family. Through it all, he would have a smile on his face and make sure everyone felt good with a nice comment in the few English words he knew, or the Mandarin he was fluent in.
His death was sudden but peaceful. He died in his sleep while he was home alone. He had just made everyone breakfast that morning and sent everyone off. We found him lying on the couch in his usual napping position.
Hsuhwa worked tirelessly as a husband and father, even working at his age, 66, in order to provide for his family. He did everything from cutting his son's hair to changing the engine oil on his family's cars. As an immigrant, he embodied the American dream by working as hard as possible to provide for his family in any way he could. His presence and helpfulness will truly be missed.
He had friends in America and Taiwan. Despite coming all the way to America, he would still try to make it back to Taiwan and keep in contact with his friends while he was here. There would always be a high school class reunion whenever he came back. Even if he wasn’t in Taiwan, his presence was felt through daily messages on Line. One classmate said, “his companionship was invaluable,” and “our hearts remained connected” despite the distance. In America, he made friends easily through his kind personality and his hobby of poker. Almost every Sunday, Hsuhwa would get together with his friends, called the “River Chasers” or “168” to play a few friendly rounds of poker and have a meal together. He was dubbed “Little Cheng” (小鄭) by many of his friends.
His passing was sudden and caught our family totally off guard. We found ourselves in immediate need of a funeral home, cemetery, and all the expectations of death that we were totally unprepared for. This fundraiser will help alleviate the financial burden that we find ourselves in.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 25th, from 2:00-5:00pm at the Costellon Runyon Funeral Home in Metuchen.
568 Middlesex Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840
In keeping with Chinese tradition, please make sure all donations end in odd amounts. Whether it be $1 or even 1 cent, any sort of help is appreciated. Thank you.
