In Memory of Hilary Allumaga

Dear Friends and Fellow-Bereaved:

The shocking news of the sudden death in Nigeria of our dear friend, brother, classmate, colleague, compatriot, and coworker Mr. Hilary Allumaga has shaken all of us.

Hilary graduated from Gallaudet University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Arts in 2008 and a Master’s in Public Administration in 2017, and, at the time of his sudden and premature passing, he was working at the Department of Transportation at Gallaudet University.

Hilary was, in his all too brief life, a shining star who had a smile on his face, a wonderful friend, caring, humble and protective. He was one of those unique people we know as “creatives”, an immensely gifted artist who shaped images and objects of art from wood, art, and utility out of clay, and created fantasies which were at once Africanist and Deafcentric on canvas with his paint and brush. See links to some of Hilary’s work below.

Hilary leaves behind, a loving wife Vivian Nkafu Allumaga, three young children, and an adopted stepdaughter, all of whom live in Silver Spring, Maryland. Without a father, and with the economic constraints occasioned by COVID-19, they all face financial hardship without him.

We ask you to please consider making a donation to Professor Emilia Chukwuma, School Director of Civic Leadership, Business, & Social Change at Gallaudet University via any of PayPal, Zelle, or CashApp to Hilary’s survivors. These donations will:

Provide succor to Hilary’s grieving family; Support his wife and children’s roundtrip travel to Nigeria for his funeral
