It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of Hibikiryu Mitsuku. As a community of Sumo fans we send our most heartfelt condolences to Hibikiryu's family, friends and stablemates at Sakaigawa-beya.
Aged only 28 years old, Hibikiryu died as a result of the injuries he sustained during a Sandanme bout at the Hatsu 2021 basho, and potentially the subsequent handling of that injury.
As Hibikiryu is an only child, this loss is going to be felt keenly by his parents. And, as a mark of respect, we have chosen to raise funds in order to make a donation to Hibikiryu's family.
