Heather was an animal lover all of her life. We have found childhood photos of her with cats and dogs.
Throughout my childhood and adult life stray cats adopted mum and she loved and cared for them. She developed a strong bond with them all. At one time we had 6 none of which had been actively chosen by us much to dad's despair!
She was also well know for walking Harvey the Staffie (or rather Harvey walked her!) a beloved member of the family for many years. The comments of look at that old lady with that Staffie were frequent. More amusing were the phone calls to dad when it started to rain and Harvey refused to walk any more and dad had to collect them both.
She spoiled animals totally cooking Harvey a roast dinner each Sunday and cooking fresh fish for cats as well as chicken and rice if they were unwell.
It seems only right that if people would like to remember mum in some way that this is of benefit to animals and New Hope Animal Rescue carry out work that other organisations don't. I asked New Hope to explain what they do and why they need support:
New Hope are dedicated to saving animals that are in immediate danger of being ‘put to sleep’, have complex medical and/or behavioural issues, etc. We often take those that no other rescues will.
We have over 400 animals of all species now at our Sanctuary but are probably best known for saving ‘death row’ dogs. We are also contacted by vets, larger rescues, Police, etc. as they know we do our utmost to save those at risk.
After 20 years, we have to leave our current kennels due to re-development. We now have to use emergency boarding at other kennels, which not only impacts financially as it’s more expensive but inflates our transport costs due to the new location.
The co-founders of New Hope work full time and none of the volunteers take a wage so 100% of donations go directly to the animals.
Thank you for reading and we are incredibly grateful for any help, as without our supporters, New Hope Animal Rescue would not be able to continue.
If you can spare anything to remember Heather (my mum) and support these animals as a family we would be grateful.
Thank you for taking a moment to read about Heather and one of her loves.
