A few days before Christmas, my father was struggling with suicidal thoughts. The police responded by driving a SWAT vehicle into the side of our house, despite them having the keys to enter and there being no barricades.

They fired weapons into our home; one of their bullets hit our washing machine. Ultimately, my father passed away after this violent confrontation.

My father was an indigenous Puerto Rican man; English was not his first language. It is clear from the immediate lack of empathy and humane treatment by the police that they had no interest in helping him, only in ensuring that he did not survive.

My family is devastated and traumatized by my father’s passing and the barbaric response by the police. We are asking for help to cover his memorial services and the damages done to our home. The money will be used for:
