In memory of Evie Hope Humphries

Evie was born extremely prematurely at 23 weeks 6 days on Sunday 14th February 2021 at 15:20 weighing 1 pound 4 oz (642grams) at Jessop Wing, Sheffield.

At 19 weeks pregnant we was told that Evie could be born at any moment as I was 2cm dilated with bulging membranes. After many investigations and scans I was offered a rescue stitch in hope that it would close my cervix until I got to what they class as a viable stage. Unfortunately the stitch only held until 21+2 when the decision was made to take the stitch out as I was at high risk of the stitch tearing my cervix if Evie had decided to come.
Luckily, with constant bed rest before and after stitch removal I managed to hold on until 22 weeks when the decision was then made to transfer me to Jessop Wing to be in close proximity to a level 3 neonatal unit.

After the transfer to jessops I started with bleeds, and dilated to 8cm. We was told that Evie would make an appearance that day (this happened about 4 times throughout my stay). But we managed 13 extra days before her arrival.

Evie managed the stabilisation really well, and we got to spend 8 precious days with her - changing nappies, buckle feeds and changing her position. 

The whole team at Jessop's especially neonatal intensive care unit was amazing. The care Evie received throughout was more then we could ever have expected. When Evie turned poorly they did everything possible to get her better but it just wasn't meant to be.

Our precious girl passed away in our arms Tuesday 23rd February 2021 at 06.50.

Evie's funeral will take place on Monday 8th March at 11am. We are asking for any donations instead of flowers for Jessop's, to help them buy extra equipment to help all other poorly or premature babies in the future.
