In memory of Erica Lara

I want to start by saying I can’t even believe I have to write this. I can’t believe this is reality. As most of you know my name is Jessi, I am Erica Lara’s older sister (her only sister at that.) Erica passed away at the end of June 2021. We do not have an exact date of death for her yet because we have not gotten the full autopsy report back. Erica’s life was taken too soon. Erica lost her life at the hands of her boyfriend Kyle Curley, who has a history of abusing women. If you search his name in Rhode Island he has a wrap sheet a mile long. I have had 6 women come forward and tell me they experienced the same abuse from him. Erica was a domestic abuse victim. She died from a brain bleed from the injuries he had given her, but that’s all the coroner has told us so far. I’m sure once they are able to release the details we will find out much more. Erica had just met Kyle earlier this year, and his first attack on her (that we know of) was in May where he assaulted her so badly that he crushed her throat and she could barely even speak, busted her lip, gave her a black eyes, kicked her in the ribs and picked her up by the throat and threw her on the ground. Erica filed with the police that day, and they failed her. They did not take him into custody, and they hardly

even looked for him. Kyle had a warrant out for his arrest already and had just gotten his ankle bracelet off earlier that month, and one of his ex’s told me she BEGGED his PO not to remove it, and they did anyway. After this assault, Kyle now had 2 warrants out for his arrest yet somehow they never picked him up? How does that make any sense. I know so many people keep asking why did she stay? The truth is, he was stalking her. Every time she went to get away, he found her. Right before she went missing we discovered a tracking app on her phone and we had her delete it. The next day was the last day anyone heard from her. He also threatened her life on many occasions and told her he would kill her if she went to the police again, and some of her friends have told me they heard him threatening her life over the phone. No one understands the fear of domestic violence unless you’ve been in that situation yourself. I know my sister was no angel, and she had her demons as we all do. But my sister did not deserve this. She did not deserve what she went though with this sad excuse for a man. Right now the police have Kyle in custody and they are waiting to get the coroners report back in order to charge him with everything they can. Today, July 6th 2021, Erica will be cremated. Erica leaves behind her two little girls Hailey, 9, and Emily, 6. These girls were everything to her. She fought every day to keep living just for these girls. I’m hoping this fundraiser will help us raise money for her services, money for her girls, and raise awareness for Domestic Violence. I would like to order shirts and window decals for Ericas memory as well. I understand if you can’t contribute, but anything will be helpful for us. At the very least, please share. Thank you everyone for the love and support. It means the world to us.
