It is with love & fond memories we mourn the loss of Emmanuel Michael Ater.
On Sunday, December 21st, 2025 the family of Michael Mayic Ater & the late Yar Kau Ater Liit suffered an incredible loss with the passing of their beloved 3rd born and only son Emmanuel.
Emmanuel was a very humble, intelligent, humorous & optimistic individual. He was an individual who always left you either joyful & laughing or with something to think about and reflect whenever you sat one on one with to talk about life. He always made you feel heard & seen with his open mind and knowledge he had of the world. His optimistic ways & his selflessness is what stood out the most about him, often thinking and putting his friends & family needs before himself.
Emmanuel was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle & friend to many. The only boy among girls, he meant the world to his sisters Aman, Akon, late Naomi, Maggie & Queen who he has stood by fiercely; and they have stood by him just as much for him as family comes first is the saying amongst them. He is survived not only by his sisters but his father Michael Mayic, all his nieces and nephews in Canada & Australia and last but most importantly, the ones who meant the world to him his beloved daughter Emma & son Issiah. Whom he loved dearly & shares with Misty Gillis who has been around in the family for 22yrs and has been a source of light for him especially as the mother of his children.
With that being said, this sudden unexpected loss has put a financial strain on the family. The family is hoping/wishing to be able to provide Emmanuel a celebration of life/service to lay him to rest in South Sudan, where his father Michael Mayic who he has not seen in over 30yrs can finally be reunited physically with him & say his last goodbyes to.
We the family thank you in advance for your support & prayers, as we are all looking to Emmanuel to remember to have an optimistic view of things in such a tough time. As he is now in a better place now.
