Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts. At 17, they were contemplating marriage when dad left for his journey in the Marines. Then, life happened and they went their separate ways for awhile.
Not everyone gets second chances ... Mom and dad, did. This time around, mom came packaged with a 12 year old kid (me). Without any hesitation, Dad married mom, and adopted me. Within four years, I had given Dad a headful of gray hair and my amazing brother was born. "Ed" and "Ed" (father and son), had an instant bond which grew stronger throughout the years.
He was a father, a husband, a veteran, a best friend ... he was smart and witty ... and he loved my mom ... they were inseparable. Friday night, you could find them at a kareoke event and every Saturday night, dancing. Their social life far surpassed mine!
Just a few days ago, Dad went out for a walk with Emmie (his German Shephard) and due to a "freak accident", he was rushed to the Emergency Room. He came through surgery ... was moved out of ICU ... and then the good Lord called him home. To say it was unexpected is an understatement. None of us were prepared ... but least of all, my mom ... dad's best friend of close to 60 years.
With the emotional stress also comes the financial obligations associated with an unexpected death. As such, I have set up this GoFundMe page in the hopes that it will ease some of the financial burden for my mom.
I pray that the Lord will sustain her strength and faith and would like to thank our family and friends for your love and generousity.
It is in these moments when you see people come together to support the people we care for.
