In memory of Dr. Michael Waters

Dear family and friends:

For months, Michael Waters, PhD worked tirelessly, weekdays and weekends, in the race against COVID-19. A typical Sunday evening for him was rushing back and forth between the kitchen upstairs, cooking with his wife and taking care of his children, and the basement, working at his desk.  On Sunday, September 27, 2020, it started out as the same routine. He put a lasagna in the oven, played with his kids, and went downstairs to work. He never came back up to his children.

His sudden passing has caused immense shock and pain beyond words to his family members, friends, and colleagues. He left behind his beloved wife, Hang, and three small children Luke (10), Drake (8), and Claire (just 2).

After serving loyally and proudly in the U.S Marines Corp. for 8 years, with medals and honorable discharge, Mike continued his dedication to public service in the field of public health as a scientist.  He was a leading scientific reviewer, a team leader at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Mike and his team have worked dangerously long hours, under tremendous pressure, racing with time to find accurate and quick tests, ways to harmonize data for systematic checking, tracking, and controlling the spread of the virus.  They devoted nearly 24- hour days and in Mike's case, he worked until his last breath. He is his children’s hero, trying to save the world. And more than anything, he was a loving husband and a dedicated father.

We are creating this fundraiser, as a tribute to Mike' life-long dedication to public service, to make sure that his family, especially his three small children (Luke, Drake, and Claire), are taken care of as much as possible.  The money raised will help pay for their education and living expenses as their family faces enormous financial and other challenges.  While nothing is going to bring their beloved Dad back, this is the best we can do for the children at this point.

Please donate and support. It would mean so much to his family, just as his family meant so much to Mike. Thank you for your contribution; it shows them they are not alone, and that the future will not always be as dark as it feels now.
