Dr. Idris Evans was a father, a husband, a brother, a friend, and one of the best humans that I had the opportunity to know. He was tragically murdered yesterday, and his wife was also attacked and injured. She is now dealing with the aftermath and raising their two young children. We are raising money to support her and the kids with medical bills, funeral expenses, and giving her time to recover from this all.

If you were lucky enough to have ever met him, he probably made you laugh. Unless you were one of his patients, in which case he probably saved your life… and made you laugh. Idris was like an older brother to me. He taught me about love and relationships. He taught me how to make the most incredible butterfly steak. He even used his martial arts expertise to teach me how to fight, the hard way.

Idris chose one of the hardest paths in medicine - pediatric critical care. For the past 10+ years, he cared for the sickest children in and around the Pittsburgh area. As the Assistant Professor for Critical Care Medicine and Medical Director of the Pediatric Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, he also led other physicians and care providers trying to save kids' lives. The choice to do that kind of work, subjecting yourself to the repeated heartbreak of losing children just to have the opportunity to save the ones you can, perfectly epitomizes the type of man that Idris Evans was. He was the best of us. And despite doing that work and leading others in it, he was always down for a good time, full of jokes, a loving husband and father, and a great friend. Idris spent his life caring for other people's families. Now that his family needs care, we appreciate any support you can offer. If you can give, please give.
