In memory of Deputy Austin Walsh

Hello, I am Alec Walsh, the brother of Austin Walsh, and I am writing this alongside of our mother, Cheryl. I never thought I would have to do this and nothing could have prepared our family for this tragedy. We do not ask for help lightly. Our mother devoted her life to raising us as an only parent, working 1, 2, and even three jobs to support us growing up, and making sure we could pursue our passions. We never had tons of money, but our lives were always full of love and support. It was always a team effort; our mother used to say, "We are the Three Musketeers, we can do anything as long as we are together."

I lost my only brother, and my mom, her youngest son, in a tragic and preventable shooting. Austin had always wanted to be a police officer and help people since he was little. He joined the Explorers program in Middle School and has been with the Sheriff's Office in Brevard County, FL, since he turned 18. Austin was taken just three months after his 23rd birthday. He had just begun to learn to fly planes, in hopes of eventually flying the helicopter for the Sherriff's Office someday. Austin had so much life and potential ahead of him, and was growing into such an awesome and honorable young man. He was kind, respectful & fun. Austin received multiple awards and commendations for multiple life-saving calls and heroic actions, and those actions will live on through the people he saved and in our memories. We are very reluctant to ask for help, however, financially, we are not prepared for this horrible & tragic event, and reluctantly we need to ask for help to help honor Austin in the way he deserves. We are not looking for or expecting to reach the fundraising goal; we are just asking for any help people are willing to give. Our lives are forever changed because of this tragic event, and this world lost a truly good soul, brother, and son.
