Hello, my name is Tayfun McElwain and I am a high school student in Chicago. My grandfather, Robert McElwain, who I called Dede, passed away of COPD after fighting for many years. I miss him very dearly, Dede was a very active individual, and he loved taking walks and observing nature. Seeing him become weaker and weaker over the course of his elderly life really broke me as he wasn't able to do the things he once loved to do, like go to ball games, or play cribbage with my father and me. COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a lung condition that makes it harder and harder to breathe over time, it is the third leading cause of death worldwide. Raising awareness for COPD would greatly impact the lives of many people around the globe, as many families have struggled or are currently struggling with family members that are suffering from COPD. My goal is to raise $10,000 for the COPD Foundation which funds research for treatment, and support for people living with this disease, as well as education for those who are unaware of what COPD is and how it affects people. 100% of donations will go directly to the cause. Every donation, no matter how small or large, is greatly appreciated. Every dollar helps, even the smallest donations will go a very long way.
