In Solemn Remembrance of David Hanes (1952–2026)

It is with profound sorrow that I, Richard Hanes, announce the passing of my father, David Hanes, age 73. On the evening of January 29, 2026, a catastrophic fire consumed my parents' long-time family home in Wadena, Minnesota, claiming the life of my father and the family’s loyal companion, Queenie.

David was a man of steadfast character and quiet strength. A professional semi-truck driver for over 35 years, he dedicated his life to a career characterized by diligence and reliability. Beyond his profession, he was a pillar of support for his family and an active member of the Wadena community. He was widely known for his resourcefulness, his ability to repair any piece of equipment, and his willingness to lend his mechanical expertise to anyone in need.

For 55 years, David and my mother, Jeannie Hanes, built a life centered on faith and family. Despite living in a rural setting, they shared their spirit with the community through their love of the holidays. They spent years meticulously decorating their yard with Christmas displays, creating a beacon of light and joy for anyone traveling the rural roads during the winter months.

An Unprecedented Loss

The fire resulted in the total destruction of the family residence. As my mother was away at the store during the time of the incident, she escaped physical harm but lost everything. At 73 years of age, she is left with only the clothes she was wearing at that moment. The loss of a life partner of five decades, a home, and a beloved pet is a burden no individual should bear alone. We are now faced with the task of honoring my father’s legacy while ensuring my mother has the resources necessary to survive this transition.

Purpose of This Fund

I have established this fund to provide my mother with the stability required to navigate this tragedy. Contributions will be strictly allocated to the following:

Emergency Provisions: Acquisition of essential clothing, medical necessities, and personal care items.

Final Arrangements: Ensuring a dignified memorial service for David Hanes.

Housing Assistance: Securing safe, long-term accommodations.
