In memory of Dave, The DAM Foundation

I am taking part in the Sydney City to Surf, Sunday 13th August in memory of Dave, who passed away on 19th February 2021 while raising money for the mental Health Charity, Mind.

Dave completed a Half Marathon in Abu Dhabi with his wife, Alex. He was 28 and in peak condition, finishing the course in 90 minutes before he collapsed following sudden cardiac arrest. Alex, who is my niece, was by his side. They were often raising money for charity and always wanted to do more. The DAM Foundation has been created in his name.

600 people under 35 die in the UK from sudden cardiac arrest each year. Research has shown that deploying a defibrillator within 3 to 5 minutes of collapse increases survival rates by up to 70%. It is the goal of The DAM Foundation to make these available in as many grassroots sports venues across the UK as possible.

Dave was someone who had an undeniable enthusiasm for life, always made time for those he met, a true gentleman ... he will forever live in our hearts.
