In Memory of Da'Shaun

On February 3, 2022, Da’Shaun Bellamy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Da’Shaun was 13 years old and was deaf. He attended Cross Creek School as a 6th grader and previously went to Peters Elementary and Tamarac Elementary where he was beloved by teachers, interpreters, paras, peers, in short, anyone who got to know him. Da’Shaun was involved after school in The Center for Hearing and Communication’s MOST program for many years, where he learned community engagement and social responsibility as well as had fun with his deaf peers.

Anyone who knew Da’Shaun knew he loved elevators. Whenever he was having a difficult time you could cheer him up by speaking to him about this subject. His expression shifted and his face would light up with a contagious smile. He was affectionate and a lover of hugs. He would hold tight to any hand extended to him as he always preferred to keep one close. He was an outstanding artist and crafted beautiful, perfect handwriting. Da’Shaun loved spelling; he was able to spell words beyond his years.

The loss of this young life has reverberated throughout the community, as all life is precious, but one so young is a loss grieved beyond words.
