In Loving Memory of Dan Abbott – A Devoted Husband, Father, and Friend

It is with unimaginable sorrow that we share the tragic loss of Dan, who passed away suddenly on May 2, 2025, in a tragic car crash on his way to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes—golfing, with one of his closest friends who is thankfully alive and has a long road of recovery ahead.

Dan was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Meghan, for nearly 23 years. Their anniversary is May 19th. Meghan just had her 50th birthday on May 5th. Instead of celebrating, she was heartbreakingly tasked with picking out a burial plot and headstone for her best friend

Together, Dan and Meghan built a beautiful life and raised two extraordinary children. Griffin, 19, currently a sophomore at Hilbert College who shares his dad's passion for golf and basketball. They were frequently found outside their home playing basketball or attending/watching a Syracuse University basketball game. Madison, 22, just graduated from Gannon University, one week after losing her father. Dan could always be found cheering Maddie on at one of her softball games or driving down to Gannon to pick Maddie up for the weekend just so she felt comfort and her dad's love. Dan was so incredibly proud of both of them and is surely keeping a protective and watchful eye over them and Meghan.

Dan had a heart of gold, a laugh that could fill a room, and a presence that made everyone around him feel valued. His sudden passing has left an unfillable void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

We are starting this GoFundMe to support Meghan, Griffin, and Madison as they navigate the difficult road ahead. Knowing and not knowing what’s ahead and that any legal pursuits could take months or years, and the fact there are debts to be paid which were made based on a two-income household, funds raised will help with immediate expenses and provide some financial relief as they adjust to life without Dan’s steady love and support. The kids need college support (Griff is still in school and Maddie soon starts graduate school at Gannon) and Meghan needs help with already planned home repairs and monthly bills in addition to unplanned funeral expenses.
