We are raising funds in Copi’s memory for the incredible women behind Pawssion 4 Dogs — Silvia and Paula — two tireless volunteers who save one dog at a time from the Miami-Dade shelter (and whom introduced us to Copi.) These women are true angels. After their day jobs, they show up for the forgotten dogs: the sick, the scared, the ones no one else wants. They cook meals, bring blankets, offer comfort, and find loving homes. They were the ones who first featured Copi and made her rescue possible.

Copi’s Journey: From Shelter to Family

Six months ago, our family opened our hearts to a gentle soul named Copi — a two-year-old dog rescued from the Miami-Dade shelter. She was on the brink of euthanasia, caged for 23 hours a day, her spirit crushed by fear and isolation. We signed up to foster her, hoping to give her a second chance. What we didn’t expect was how profoundly she would change our lives.

Copi arrived sick and fragile, battling a severe respiratory infection and paralyzed by anxiety. But with antibiotics, patience, and the quiet love of our home — made up of me, my son, and my 88-year-old father — she began to heal. Slowly, she learned to trust. Her tail wagged more often. Her eyes softened. Her heart opened.

She became our fourth family member, and we became hers.

Copi was a radiant soul — strong yet tender, playful yet serene. Her joy was contagious. Every day at 5 PM, she would wait excitedly for her walk to the coffee shop downstairs, where she’d lie peacefully under our table, adored by everyone who passed by. Despite her size and strength, people were drawn to her gentle energy. She was love, embodied.

A Tragic Loss, A Lasting Legacy

On Saturday, October 11th, we took her on one of her favorite outings — parks, music, sunshine, and treats. She was glowing with happiness. But just hours later, after enjoying a new treat, Copi suddenly fell ill. She collapsed and was rushed to the animal hospital. Despite six hours of heroic efforts by her veterinarians, her life could not be saved. We suspect the treats were contaminated, and we are still investigating this heartbreaking tragedy.

Copi was only with us for six months, but she taught us more about unconditional love, presence, and joy than we ever imagined possible. Her absence is unbearable. But in our grief, we choose to honor her life — not with sorrow, but with action.
