As many in the rugby community know, Chris Van Schalwyk, a St Louis Rambler, passed away a few minutes after competing in our first game at the Springfield 10s tournament on August 24th, despite the valiant efforts of several rugby players and wives. 

Although this was a USA Rugby sanctioned event and Chris was a USA rugby registered player, the insurance company has declined the payment of $10,000 for loss of life.

I would like to ask for help in raising this money for his wife, Venessa, and his sons, Caleb and Ethan, to help in small way to lessen the burden of the loss of Chris.

Christophe “Chris” Van Schalkwyk, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 24, 2019.  Beloved husband of Venessa Van Schalkwyk for 27 years.  Loving father of Caleb and Ethan Van Schalkwyk; cherished son of Marie-Jacques “Jacky” Magon, Andries and Liz Van Schalkwyk; dear brother of Tamaryn (Gerhard) Nel, Jean Paul (Claire) Magon, and Jean-Jean (Melanie) Magon; dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Chris worked for Bundy and Assoc. as a Website Developer.  In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing rugby and Texas Hold Em’, hiking and skiing.  He was in the process of planning a hike on the Pacific Northwest Trail with his sons. Chris was an avid Sharks Rugby fan, but also played rugby with the St. Louis Ramblers. He was a very dedicated father and husband.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
