On new years day 2021 we received news that my father Cesar Gonzalez passed away due to complications of covid. He had been in ICU for weeks. Luckily the nurses would allow us to face time him so we could see and speak to him. He was unresponsive of course due to the coma state he was in, but that's ok, he was still able to hear us. We called him everyday to tell him that everything was going to be ok and that he would walk out of the hospital better than ever. Unfortunately patients with COVID-19 can develop pneumonia that leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) — fluid in the lungs that deprives the organs of oxygen. These patients require a ventilator in the ICU, and, for patients with COVID-19 and ARDS, it’s not unusual to be on a ventilator for more than two weeks. Other patients in the ICU with COVID-19 are typically on oxygen or highly concentrated oxygen. That was the case with our beloved father who at the end, had too much fluid in his lungs. My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me, he was my teacher. But most importantly he was a great dad. The quality of a father can be seen in the goals, dreams and aspirations he sets not only for himself, but for his family. He indeed did do all those things. My father did so much for my sister and I, his generosity also affected extended family and even complete strangers. He was a man with a heart of gold. He was my hero when I was young, and he will be missed dearly. We are asking for any help and support that anyone can give. The generosity and kindness you can give or show would be appreciated and needed at a time like this. We are looking to give him a funeral he deserves, even though it will happen much sooner than we would have expected. He was an honest, hard working man, who doesn't deserve to have his body stuck in some freezer or hospital. Were trying our best to get him out of there as quickly as we can and buried so he can be laid to rest. My family will look over the expenses and would be so grateful for any donations given. Covid is a virus that has affected so many families and caused the deaths of too many people. It has shattered us to pieces. Protect your families and yourself, I wouldn't wish my situation on my worst enemy. May God bless you all. We miss you so much dad, you will live on in our hearts forever.
