In memory of Cameron Wester Phipps Park Baseball

Donation protected

Cameron Wester, our beloved Head Umpire and the man who kept our park looking good, has passed away unexpectedly, thankfully peacefully, in his sleep. Please read our thoughts below and consider donating whatever you can to help his family with funeral expenses. Cam had plenty of life left. They were not expecting this heartbreaking news...

Where to do we even begin to say how much Cameron meant to Phipps Park?

Many saw him umpiring, saw his passion for the game and for keeping it fair.

Many saw him holding court and entertaining the crowd - that's when the D-O-double-G was in his glory!

But...

What most probably never noticed was the quiet words of encouragement he would give to a child who was struggling in the game.

What most never witnessed was how many kids he mentored and encouraged every single time he saw them - he loved them and wanted nothing but absolute success for them.

What most didn't see was him fiercely defend our park and our teams and our kids, wherever the fight was, he was there for it.

What very few saw was Cameron at the park at 8am every morning, sweeping up leaves, power washing, unclogging toilets and doing whatever it took for Phipps to shine like new for every family who visited.

There was one couple - nothing to do with the baseball program - they just regularly walked their dog in the park. They were so impressed with Cameron's work ethic and how he kept things up, that they offered him a job maintaining their estate. It was a very good job. He wouldn't take it. He refused to leave Phipps.

He was so, so much more than any one position he held at Phipps. He was our heart and soul, our voice singing out on a Saturday afternoon and his loss cannot be overstated.

We love you big dogg! Please do what you can to help those Cam loved. Ease their burden and help in their time of need.

Sincerely,

Your Phipps Park Baseball Board of Directors
