We mourn the loss of our beautiful daughter, sister, friend, and exceptional intensive care nurse, Caitlyn Marie Kaufman. Caitlyn was fatally shot on December 3rd, 2020 on her way to work in the ICU at St. Thomas West Hospital, Nashville, TN. Caitlyn was from a small town in Butler, PA who dreamed to live and work as a nurse in Nashville, TN where she could use her gifts to the benefits of others. Caitlyn was an extremely selfless person, always willing to lend a helping hand no matter the personal cost. Caitlyn worked diligently as an ICU nurse for two years and served tirelessly during the COVID crisis working directly with patients in a COVID ICU. She received two prestigious Daisy Awards for Extraordinary Nurses in her first year, acknowledging both her commitment, talent, and compassion as a nurse. Caitlyn embodied what it means to be a nurse in both her professional and personal life going so far to leap from a moving car and run to help victims of a car crash as she returned from a vacation from Gatlinburg, TN with a group of friends. She was a talented collegiate athlete, diving at Clarion University of Pennsylvania for four years as well as a dedicated scholar. Caitlyn enjoyed the outdoors, her favorite season being summer. She had a passion for life, and loved spending time with her family, friends, and 200 lb Great Dane Zeus. She spent her days off blaring country music while boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, and “buggy” riding with her friends. Caitlyn was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that was contagious.

The circumstances surrounding Caitlyn’s death are still under investigation. Any information regarding Caitlyn’s death can be reported to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Hermitage Precinct at [phone redacted].

Her family appreciates any contributions towards this fund.

This is managed by Caitlyn's cousins wife, Elyse Kaufman. When the time comes for these funds to be needed, they will be given directly to Caitlyn’s parents, Rick & Diane. Thank You so much!
