We’re raising funds to create a permanent memorial for Cain — either a bench or a small statue — in Vale Park, in honour of a much-loved dog who brought daily joy to people across New Brighton and Wallasey. Any remaining funds will be donated to Birkenhead Kennels.
Cain wasn’t “just a dog”.
For many people in New Brighton and Wallasey, he was part of their daily routine — a familiar face on morning walks, a gentle presence, and a small but meaningful constant during difficult times, especially through lockdown. His daily “good morning” posts became a quiet comfort to many, and his loss has been felt far beyond his home.
We’d like to create a permanent memorial for Cain in Vale Park — either a bench or a small statue, subject to council permissions — somewhere peaceful and welcoming, where people can sit, reflect, and remember not just Cain, but the companions they’ve loved and lost over the years.
How this fundraiser works
This GoFundMe is being set up and managed by Rory Wilmer, Director of New Brighton Creative Futures CIC, on behalf of Tracey Rennie, with the support of Jacqui Bancroft. This is why Rory’s name and profile will appear on the GoFundMe page.
Funds raised will be used for:
The design, creation, and installation of a memorial for Cain in Vale Park (either a bench or a statue, subject to approval).
If any funds remain once the memorial is delivered and installed, they will be donated to Birkenhead Kennels, using their registered charity number.
Thank you
Tracey has been completely overwhelmed by the kindness, messages, and support shown by the community. This memorial is intended as a quiet, lasting thank you — not just for Cain, but for the way people came together around him.
Wallasey people really are the best
