The DaSilva family would like to thank you for taking the time to view the story of our family.

On the morning of Monday July 28, 2025 we lost August "Butter" DaSilva Jr here on earth as his soul was called home to Gods Kingdom. Butter was strong Catholic, and we know he is now graciously meeting his creator and all of his past loved ones. While we miss him dearly, we find peace in knowing he is forever watching over us and with us at all times now.

Butter was a loving Husband of 60 years to Pat, Father to Aldina and Kenny, Grandfather to Gabrielle, Dominic and Kayli, and a Father-In-Law to Rick. He was also a caring Brother, Uncle, Friend and Foster Dad to so many children throughout all of his years. The Butter shaped hole that has been left in our hearts will be forever felt.

Let us tell you a little bit about Butter....
August was given the nickname of Butterball as a small child for being a cute pudgy little guys. The nickname stuck and later was shortened to just Butter. His family, friends, neighbors and expansive fishing fleet family all knew him as Butter, it really doesn't even feel natural to call him August. Born February 20, 1940, in San Diego, CA, and being of 100% Portuguese decent, Butter was destined for the ocean and a career of tuna fishing. San Diegos tuna fleet was his home for 30 years. His heart and soul lived in the salty ocean air then, and now they do again.

Butter and Pat retired to the beautiful state of Oregon in 2003 where he got to spend his last years living a simple, quiet and beautiful life. Oregon was also where he found his calling as a foster parent and was able to spread his joy and laughter to those who needed it most. Butter got to spend his mornings in Oregon with a strong cup of coffee (those who know about his coffee know how good it was) and feeding the deer, turkeys and all the other animals that they chose to have, or that simply chose him. Waking up at the home of Butter came with the smell of fresh brewed coffee, cooking bacon and the view of all the forest creatures that knew they had a safe space at his property.

Butter had a laugh that was one of the most joyous sounds anyone has had the pleasure of hearing. He was not a man of many words, but when he did speak it was with kindness, compassion, sincerity, conviction and love. His eyes were soft, kind and the path to a pure and selfless soul. We will miss his stories, advice and presence until we meet him again someday .

Butters passing has, however, left his wife and children with a financial burden that was not expected. Pat and Butter were retired and already on a very fixed income. This did not leave a lot of extra money each month for much there than the necessities. He was not able to carry life insurance and life kept getting in the way of establishing savings for this inevitable time, that you always think is still far enough away but sadly came sooner than expected.
As a family we are facing the cost of cremation, celebration of life and a new lower monthly budget for the bills that will continue to need to be paid. Pat will now go down to the social security income of just one person moving forward, with the amount of bills staying the same. Pat loves Oregon, and the home that her and Butter built together, so we are doing everything we can as a family to make it possible for her to stay here as long as possible. We are not ones to ask for a handout, and we are usually the first to give a helping hand, but we wouldn't if it was not needed. Any money collected by this page will go directly to Pat and making sure she is being well taken care of, just as her husband Butter would have wanted for her.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, it truly means more than words can express.
