His family and immediate community are slowly getting his affairs in order. His family is not in Montreal, and not all of them are able to come; members of his community have taken on the task of cleaning out his old apartment. Unfortunately, this task is too large for us to do ourselves, both emotionally and physically, as well as will require special equipment to do, and to pick up the stuff left. We have decided to hire cleaners to do this, and are looking to Ben's broader community to help fund this cost. It seems that such services go for about $1500 for this level of a job. Gofundme takes 2.9% of funds raised; if you would like to donate directly, contact the organizer of this fundraiser.
We are also hoping to make a plaque in his honour, to be displayed at the Hive Cafe. Funds donated here will also go to cover the cost of any materials or labour for this, as well as any associated costs for a memorial service that is being organized for December.
Any excess funds will be donated to the most recent project Ben was working on, Press Start Youth Co-op.
This is of course a stressful time emotionally and materially for so many of us. Ben was a person who thrived in community, and we hope his community can carry him one last time, within their means. Ben would hate anyone giving more than they are able.
Friends of Ben who went to his apartment collected all of his books, thinking that folks might want to keep some. If you are interested in taking some, please contact Leigh (the organizer of this fundraiser) directly, as they have them at their place in Montreal. If you are outside of Montreal, we might be able to arrange something.
Due to COVID, a memorial service is being organized for what would have been his birthday, Dec. 20, 2020. You can follow the details as this gets organized here:
