In Loving Memory of Bala Krishnan — Pilot, Teacher, and Friend
On Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, the aviation community lost one of its finest. Bala Krishnan, a native Australian, Certified Flight Instructor–Instrument (CFI-I), and Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), tragically passed away in a plane crash while conducting a ferry flight in an Ercoupe.
Bala was more than just an accomplished pilot — he was a kind soul, a patient teacher, and a trusted friend to many of us in the flying club and beyond. He approached every flight with skill and professionalism, but also with joy — and he shared that joy freely with his students, peers, and friends. Bala embodied the spirit of aviation: disciplined, passionate, generous, and humble.
Bala touched many lives in the air and on the ground. If you knew him, you know how rare he was. If you didn’t, know this: the world was better with him in it, and his absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria, and their young son, Noah. Their loss is immeasurable. As they navigate this unimaginable time, we’re asking for your help to support them — whether it’s covering immediate expenses, easing the financial stress of the months ahead, or simply showing them how deeply Bala was loved and respected.
Thank you for your support and compassion.
Fly high, Bala. You’ll always be in our hearts.
