In memory of baby Rylee Lai

Hi friends - My name is Teresa, Adrian & Fiona's older sister.

We're all extremely saddened by the sudden passing of my niece, Rylee Lai.

While Adrian and Fiona continue to grieve, I’ve offered to help manage outreach since so many of you have reached out with gestures of support & kindness in this tough time. I’ve set up this page to give their friends updates on how they’re doing right is and for those that want to give Adrian and Fiona something that keeps Rylee in their memories. I will put your individual contribution towards something specific for them.

It’s a terrible shock, and as we know, how much Fiona and Adrian wanted expand their family despite their infertility issues. As we are all in different countries, it may be helpful to share more information about Rylee’s story.

After many years of infertility issues and failed IVF attempts, Fiona & Adrian were overjoyyed & surprised when they found out they were pregnant naturally with their long wanted baby at the beginning of 2022.

When Fiona was 22 weeks pregnant, Rylee was diagnosed with a heart condition - she has a hypoplastic right ventricle and VSD. Throughout Fiona’s pregnancy, Rylee’s condition was closely monitored and doctors advised that a series of surgeries may be necessary when she was born to improve her quality of life.

Rylee arrived fast and excitedly on Sunday, August 21st, 2022 at 2pm. Her medical team monitored her around the clock and said she was healthier than they all had expected. Rylee is a fighter like her parents. After 3 days in NICU, they determined Rylee was strong enough to head home with mum and dad. Before leaving the hospital, Rylee’s condition very suddenly & unexpectedly worsened - she was sent to the ICU on Wednesday evening. Despite the doctors and nurses best efforts, Rylee fought hard till the end and wasn’t able to make it.

Rylee’s brief time in this world was some of the happiest moments Adrian & Fiona have experienced. We hope to put any contributions towards items to help Adrian & Fiona to remember Rylee for years to come. Your kindness will go towards any meals & needs to help them through their grieving, a keepsake to cherish, and a future charitable donation they may want to give to honor her memory

Also, I will get something together for you to send Adrian & Fiona any ongoing thoughts & prayers to them directly.

We will always remember the time we spent with Rylee, whether it be in person holding her in our arms or virtually through video calls & sharing photos. The joy she brought to everyone is something we will never forget.
