Some goodbyes feel heavier because the love was so deep—and this is one of them.
Some women carry the weight of the world so quietly that you don’t realize how strong they were until they’re gone.
On January 24th, we lost one of those women, Aurelia, after a fierce and heartbreaking battle with aggressive breast cancer.
Aurelia was a single mother, a provider, a caregiver in every sense of the word. She worked long hours, sacrificed endlessly, and gave everything she had to raise her daughter, Erika and her children. It was always the two of them, side by side, against the world. As a single mother, she extended that love and fierceness to a fellow single mother (my mother) and her children. There was nothing Aurelia wouldn’t do to protect, support, and love her daughter and grandchildren. I witnessed that love firsthand, and it was powerful.
At her core, Aurelia was selfless. She was the kind of woman who showed up, lent a hand, and looked out for others without ever expecting anything in return. Caring for people wasn’t just her job, it was who she was. Even when her body begged her to rest, her heart wanted to keep providing. She didn’t want to retire. She didn’t know how to stop giving.
When she finally slowed down, she found peace in the simple things like tending her garden, caring for her chickens, enjoying a space that was finally her own. Those moments were sweet, sacred, and far too short.
Aurelia fought hard. She fought because she loved deeply. She fought because she didn’t want to leave her daughter behind. And while cancer took her far too soon, it never took her strength, her faith, or the legacy she leaves behind.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Erika, and three precious grandchildren who loved their grandma with their whole hearts.
This space is meant to wrap Erika and her children in support during an unimaginable season; helping carry some of the weight so they can grieve, heal, and hold one another close. Whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this page, every bit of love matters more than you know.
We trust that Aurelia is now resting in the arms of the Lord-whole, healed, and at peace. Her love lives on in the lives she shaped, the family she poured herself into, and the fierce strength she modeled so beautifully.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every prayer, donation, and share. Erika is like a sister to me, and each act of love helps speak the words I didn’t get to say to Aurelia before she left—that her daughter will never be alone. She didn’t just raise a daughter; together with my mother, she raised sisters.
