In Memory of Ariel Garcia Prieto: Funeral Fund

With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of our beloved Ariel Garcia Prieto, known and loved by many as Yeyo, Don Ariel, El Señor de Las Bolsas. He was a man who touched the lives of everyone he met with his kindness, humor, and quiet strength.

Ariel bravely battled multiple myeloma, a cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. Throughout his fight, he went through countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and extensive blood and body testing. My mom — his devoted wife — stood by his side through it all. From doctor's appointments to emergency visits, she never once hesitated or resisted getting him the help he needed. She did everything in her power to make sure he had the best care possible.

After undergoing a bone marrow transplant in December, Ariel showed signs of strength and recovery early this year. We held onto hope. But in May, his health took an unexpected and sudden turn. After several hospital stays and time in rehabilitation, he finally returned home — only to pass away just days later. His loss has left everyone devastated, and none of us were prepared for this heartbreak.

Ariel was known far and wide for his hard work, his generosity and his easygoing nature. He spent his retirement years selling at Broadacres Swapmeet, where he became a beloved and familar face to many. Before that, he dedicated years to the plastic bag industry, where he was respected and appreciated by everyone who worked with him

But more than his work, Ariel will be remembered for the way he lived — with a heart wide open. His home was always a safe and welcoming space. Whether it was his relatives or my mom's side of the family, his door was always open, and he never hesitated to lend a hand. He gave without expecting anything in return — that's just who he was.

We're creating this GoFundMe to ask for your support in helping us lay Ariel to rest with the dignity and love he deserves. These donations will go towards covering funeral and memorial costs, and will help support his relatives and our family as we try to move forward after such a painful loss.

Con el corazón en pedazos, compartimos el fallecimiento repentino de Ariel Garcia Prieto — conocido con cariño por muchos como Yeyo, Don Ariel, El Señor de las Bolsas. Fue un hombre que tocó la vida de todos los que lo conocieron con su amabilidad, su humor y su fuerza tranquila.

Ariel luchó valientemente contra el mieloma múltiple, un tipo de cáncer que afecta las células plasmáticas en la médula ósea. Durante su batalla, pasó por numerosos ciclos de quimioterapia, radiación y muchos exámenes médicos. Mi mamá —su esposa— estuvo con él en cada paso. Nunca dudó en acompañarlo a cada cita médica, urgencia o tratamiento. Nunca resistió recibir ayuda — todo lo contrario, siempre hizo lo posible por asegurarse de que recibiera la mejor atención.

En diciembre recibió un trasplante de médula ósea, y al inicio de este año, mostró señales de recuperación. Teníamos esperanza. Pero en mayo, su salud se deterioró de forma repentina. Tras varias hospitalizaciones y semanas en rehabilitación, finalmente volvió a casa… pero tristemente falleció pocos días después. Su partida ha dejado a mi mamá completamente devastada, y a la familia con un vacío que no esperábamos.

Ariel fue un hombre conocido y querido por muchos, no solo por su trabajo incansable, sino por su gran corazón. Pasó sus años de jubilación en el Swapmeet de Broadacres, donde se volvió una figura familiar y muy querida. Antes de eso, trabajó por años en la industria de bolsas plásticas, donde siempre fue respetado por su ética y dedicación.

Pero más allá de su trabajo, lo que más definía a Ariel era su generosidad. Su hogar siempre estuvo abierto — para sus familiares, los de mi mamá, y cualquier persona que lo necesitara. Daba sin esperar nada a cambio. Su corazón era enorme, y eso es lo que más vamos a extrañar.
