Making Lives Better Together

I lost 2 very special people in my life in 2023.

My Mom, Ada Jean McCarthy, lived with Dementia for many years.  She loved the beginnings of my ‘Spider-Dad’ cosplay years ago.  Mom even put on one of my early days Spidey masks and had some great fun!  She passed away while living with Dementia which robbed her of not only her memory but also her vocabulary and speech.  She was 91.

The other very special person who passed away in 2023 was Dexter - my family’s Golden Retriever.  Almost more of a person than a dog, we would often hold hands/paws.  There were times when I dressed as Spidey that I think Dex would be thinking….who is this crazy guy and he would bark excitedly because of what he was seeing!  I likened that experience to what I called ‘Pawsplay’ . Dexter crossed ‘the rainbow bridge’ due to canine cancer.  He was 11.

Dementia.  Canine Cancer.  Two of many things that can and do affect lives all around us.

I turned 60 in January.  With each passing day I realize my mortality more and more.  Dressing up as a Super-Hero such as ‘Spider-Dad’ doesn’t give me any special powers to live longer or enable me to cure diseases BUT…..if that creates smiles and/or inspires others to help….the I will keep doing it!  I hope I am inspiring YOU to help however you can.

Our families lose loved ones.  It’s a given that all living things have an end of life cycle.  But what if we could make that life journey along the way and the end of it less painful both physically and mentally.  Not only for us but our pets as well.

Researchers are doing their best every day to find cures for thousands if not millions of diseases and ailments.

Maybe one day a cure for Dementia/Alzheimers will be found.  Maybe.

Maybe one day a cure for Cancer in Canines will be found.  Maybe.

Until then research continues.  With that in mind, it’s up to us to comfort those affected and help research move forward.  It’s up to us to help when and where we can.  It’s up to us to help others.  I hope it’s the choice you’ll make through this GoFundMe.

My Mom, Ada Jean McCarthy, would have turned 92 this past December.

My family’s Golden Retriever, Dexter, would have turned 12 this past August.

I now not only present this GoFundMe in memory of my Mom and in memory of Dexter……but also to recognize and help the countless other people YOU know who are or have been affected by Dementia/Alzheimers and YOUR canine best friends who are battling or have lost their fight against Canine Cancer.

Funds raised will be evenly split.  Half will go to and be used for -
purchases of Dementia/Alzheimer aids to be given to and used at Dryden’s long term care home - Princess Court in Dryden.
The other half raised will be presented to the Ontario Veterinary College at the University Of Guelph - Pet Trust - Cancer Centre.

The fundraising goal is $6,000 total.  I hope you will consider joining The Team and help make a difference.  Be a Super-Hero just by joining!

Thank you so much…..
