Hello, my name is Omar Reyes, a longtime coworker and friend of Amy Smith, formerly known as Amy Vanover.

Sadly, Amy (Vanover) Smith passed away this past weekend after a brief and devastating illness. She leaves behind her daughter and four wonderful grandchildren, who now face the challenges of life without her, as well as the financial burden of funeral costs.

Amy was a dedicated coworker of mine at Rhode Island College. She later joined my team at the RI Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner, where she helped adults return to school despite facing barriers outside of the classroom. Throughout her life, Amy dedicated herself to helping others, and now it's our turn to help her.

If you knew Amy, you would remember her kindness, strong work ethic, and faith in God. She consistently radiated hope and positivity, regardless of the challenges life presented. Amy believed in kindness, love, helping others, and appreciating the beauty in the world, even during difficult times.

In our last conversation, Amy expressed her worries about her daughter and her grandchildren's financial situation in the coming year.
