Hello all - my name is Daron Hansen, and myself, along with Jeff Anderson, feel like we needed to help our friend of 30+ years, because he would never ask for it. Fred (or Dan as we knew him) has been influential within the bowling family here in MN always willing to help out at his pro shop or share his knowledge of the game that we love.
And if you didn't know Fred, you wouldn't have been able to tell that for over 8 years, he has battled with and next to his wife of over 24 years, Jo Ann, until she recently lost her battle.
An 8+ year long battle has it costs...mentally, physically, and financially. Jeff and I are not smart enough to know how to help with the first two, but we can try to help with the third. :)
"Jo Ann's Journey" - from her Facebook page.
"Jo Ann was originally diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer in September 2015. Fast growing cancer tumor in left breast & slow growing cancer in right breast that had metastasized to her L1 vertebrae. Her case was considered rare at the time that her treating oncologist brought her case before a panel of 15 oncologist at the U of M. JoAnn was fortunate enough to be diagnosed when she was since previously most cancer patients would just be prescribed pain medication and sent home to die. The advancement of breast cancer treatments allowed options. JoAnn’s treatments were in reverse order of current normal breast cancer treatments. IV chemo was administered first to shrink the immeasurable mass in her right breast, then followed by a bilateral lumpectomy, then radiation to both breasts and cyberknife radiation treatments on her spine. Followed by a year of Zometa infusion therapy, then a year of Nerlynx adjunctive daily pill chemotherapy. When JoAnn received the news that her spine was stable in 2019, she was suffering from a concussion related to an auto accident in November 2019 that left her debilitated and unable to work, dizziness, nausea, weakness in arms and low back spasms and pain. In April of 2022 the cancer became active again, JoAnn was hospitalized with hypercalcemia discovering that the disease had spread to her bones, in her left hip & femur, left shoulder, several spots on cervical neck vertebrae, skull and right lung. Again debilitated and has since been fighting the new spots and lesions of cancer throughout her body. August the PET scan brought great news, all the new sites were shrinking. Still struggling to gain energy and strength with daily activities and unable to return to work. November PET scan brought the news of progression of the disease with cancer lesions in the pelvis and T6 & T8 vertebrae. Another level of chemotherapy treatments was added to her treatment plan. February 2023 PET scan brought the news that existing lesions had doubled and several more cancer sites along the spine."
Additional treatments we started, but she lost her difficult fight on December 2nd, 2023.
