In Memoriam: The José O. Vilanova Memorial Fund

Dearest Friends,
On the night of May 26th, our beloved friend and brother, José Vilanova, left this earth for a more peaceful and loving place. While our hearts are broken by the force of this great loss, we, each of us, who were blessed to live in the light of this brilliant soul, are left better for having known him, – better for having loved him.
In honor and in memory of that great blessing, and in the spirit of José's generosity of love, friendship, intellect, wisdom and humor, we have established this GoFundMe as an avenue for José’s community to join together to care for him and his Mother Nancy in this most special way.
So many of you – people from every stage of his life – have reached out to offer support for Nancy and to pay tribute to his memory. We collect these funds to ensure José receives the send-off he deserves and so that Nancy and other close family members are surrounded by love and support during this especially challenging time. Any funds remaining will be donated in his honor to OneWheaton, a community of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and allied (LGBTQ&A) alumni and students of Wheaton College that made José immensely proud.
We will gather in Miami this week to say goodbye to our dear friend. Details will be provided shortly so that all who are able may join either in person or virtually. As the past few days have brought us grief and mourning, let the days ahead offer hope and healing. Let us carry forward the goodness and love José brought to our lives, by sending goodness and love to him on his great journey.
