Hello. My name is Gary Gatewood, and this is the Memorial GoFundMe campaign for my dearly-departed sister, LaNita Rose Gatewood (1964 - 2021). When this fund was first established, I indicated that its purpose was to raise money to subsidize funeral and burial expenses of my sister, to help with the settlement and dissolution of LaNita’s earthly affairs, and to help in the establishment of a living memorial to LaNita: the creation and endowment of a research grant program, in LaNita’s name, whose purpose will be to fund research into certain specific diseases and medical conditions which disproportionally affect Black women and other women of color (although all women are potentially at risk). In particular, we will focus on pulmonary and cardio-pulmonary ailments. This organization will be called The LaNita Rose Gatewood Memorial Research Fund.




I hope to establish this new, non-profit organization, with a strong, effective executive and online infrastructure within about a year’s time. Hopefully, the new organization will be fully operational by the first year anniversary of LaNita’s passing. In order to do this, a great deal of work will have to be done, and funds must be raised in order to subsidize the most basic business structure for such an operation. I will give periodic updates on the progress of this campaign and endeavor in this space, as well as an official outlet for the proposed operation once we have progressed enough to have an apparatus operable.
