Dear All,
My name is Patil Avanessian, from Los Angeles, CA, and I have created this GoFundMe page for one of my closest friends, Catherine Grande, whose father recently passed away. Below is their story, and it would mean a lot if you could take a moment to read it.
On Thursday night, March 19th, 2020, the Grande Family received a call that would alter their lives forever. The head of the family, Luis Grande, a loving husband and father of three, had passed away suddenly after suffering from pneumonia possibly due to the coronavirus (the family is still desperately awaiting results from the hospital). The sudden death of a family member is a nightmare, but it is made especially so because his family was unable to be by his side in his final moments. Luis had been put in isolation a couple days prior to his death and was unable to have any contact with the outside world.
Luis was an amazing father who always put his family first. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, and his three loving children - Nicholas (14) Valerie (11) and Catherine (22). Family time was important to Luis, as he oftentimes took the kids to Disneyland where they have so many fond memories.
Aside from always being there for his family, Luis was a very driven man. He worked tirelessly running a small business to provide for his family.
This is a very tough time for the Grande family who not only have to suffer the loss of their father and husband, but have to deal with the chaos of Covid-19 at the same time. Those of you who have lost a loved one know that love and support is crucial to survive times like these, but because the Grande family is self-quarantined, friends and family have not been able to comfort them during this extremely difficult time.
It is still unclear whether or not the pneumonia was caused by Covid-19. The family is awaiting test results and we will update you all with information as it comes in.
While the entire Grande family has been grieving their loss, Luis’s newly widowed wife Claudia is overwhelmed with financial stress. Luis was the sole provider for the family, and with him no longer here, the family is struggling to make ends meet.
Now, without her life partner, Claudia must figure out how she and her three children will keep a roof over their head. With that in mind, she also must figure out how to fund Luis’s hospital bills and his burial, which alone is going to cost upwards of $20,000.
Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things in the world. None of us are able to bring Luis back, but as a community, we can help the Grande family move forward. Claudia, Catherine, Nick, and Valerie would greatly appreciate any help to alleviate this great financial burden especially during this incredibly difficult crisis worldwide. Donations of any amount are accepted and greatly appreciated by their family. If there is anything at all that you can give, it would help them immensely. Thank you.
***UPDATE: (3/27) The hospital called with the test results and let the Grande family know that the results for Covid-19 came back negative. The family is thankfully safe from being exposed to the virus and now they continue to wait for autopsy results to dig deeper into why he passed away and if there were any other underlying reasons aside from the pneumonia.
