In Loving Memory Of Xóchitl Widing
Donation protected
Early in the morning of Monday, March 25, our beloved Xóchitl Maria passed away peacefully at home from complications arising from Fanconi Anemia (FA).
On May 5, 2017, Matt and Jessica were blessed with a beautiful little girl they named Xóchitl (So-chee) Maria Widing. Xóchitl is an Aztec word meaning “flower” while the name Maria was chosen as a tribute to Jessica’s mom who passed away from cancer in August of 2017.
As far as anyone knew, Xóchitl was a healthy, happy baby. However, in June of 2017, Xóchitl was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Fanconi Anemia or FA.
FA is a rare, but serious blood disorder that prevents your bone marrow from making enough new blood cells for your body to work normally. It can also cause your bone marrow, the sponge-like tissue inside your bones, to make abnormal blood cells.
FA can lead to numerous other conditions including cancer. From the time of her diagnosis, Xóchitl underwent numerous treatments including surgery, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and numerous hospital stays.
On Thursday March 21, 2019, Matt and Jessica received news that no parent should ever have to face. The cancer had returned and had spread to Xóchitl’s brain and spine. They were informed that any further treatments would not prevent the inevitable.
Matt and Jessica spent every moment of Xóchitl’s last days at her side where they surrounded her with love, hugs, kisses and her favorite things.
Xóchitl was the light of her parent’s lives. She was a beautiful, sweet natured girl. A girl whose smile lit up the room. A girl who loved “Coco” and faithfully watched it every single day. A girl who has brought immeasurable joy to the lives of those around her. A girl who will be loved and remembered forever.
Because Xóchitl’s passing was so sudden and unexpected, we are humbly asking for your donations to help with the costs of the funeral and arrangements.
This account will be administered by Ally Widing, Matt’s sister.
Finally, we ask that you keep Xóchitl, Matt and Jessica in your hearts, your thoughts and your prayers. And we ask that you cherish and treasure your loved ones. Hold them tight to you and let them know how much you love them.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and for your love and support of Matt, Jessica and Xóchitl.
