In Loving Memory of Wendy Antill, one of our own
Donation protected
To everyone who may not yet have heard the sad news, we unfortunately lost our very dear friend and Mitie colleague Wendy Antill to Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the early hours of March 26th, 2020.
Wendy was 57 and had worked as a cleaner at Rolls-Royce, Derby, since she was around 18 years old - most recently as a Supervisor on D-Site. She was in fact looking forward to soon receiving her 40 years Long Service Award!
Those of us who knew her will always remember Wendy as a genuinely kind, hard working and gentle lady with a heart of gold. Wendy was also an animal lover and doted on her two dogs and two cats. Her passing has hit the team in Derby hard and she will be sorely missed by many across the Derby campus.
Wendy unfortunately had underlying health issues which made her more vulnerable to Coronavirus. She had been struggling with her health for a long time and - despite not wanting to take time off - had had to go on long term sick late last year. Wendy caught the virus whilst recovering in hospital after she fell and broke her hip. Just days before she passed, Wendy had been released home with a fever. Her condition very quickly deteriorated and unfortunately nothing could be done to save her. This was later confirmed to have been COVID-19.
Wendy leaves behind two daughters Joanne & Rebecca and two sons Phillip & Jamie. We have been supporting her daughter Joanne, who has taken on the task of making all the necessary arrangements for Wendy. Our hearts go out to Joanne at this difficult time. Not only is she having to deal the loss of her mother and the added financial burden; she is also having to self-isolate away from home due to contact with Wendy. To top this off, she's now been told by the Council that she has 4 weeks to empty and vacate Wendy's house.
We've already had numerous emails, texts and calls from people asking how to help, so here it is! Our hope is to raise enough money to cover Wendy's outstanding rent (somewhere around £500 currently), as well as contributing to funeral costs. If we were to meet all these costs, the combined total of these is around £3,500. If we raise more, we also hope to help Joanne with any removal/storage costs relating to Wendy's belongings.
Some of you already previously contributed to the collection Bev Collick has been running to support Wendy with her bills. On 6 April those funds were added to the fundraiser here.
On a positive note, we had news today that a new home has been found for Wendy's beloved pets, however if anything changes I will update you all on here.
If you would like to donate, just click on the donate button and donate whatever you can. If you are not able to donate don’t forget you can still leave messages and comments for Wendy’s children to read (I believe you may need to be logged into GoFundMe to be able to do this).
Please note that the "tip" suggested by GoFundMe to help them run the platform is optional and you can adjust the amount to suit.
