In Loving Memory of Victoria: Support for Her Family

In loving memory of Victoria Alysha Durgana Latortue

In the tapestry of life, some threads shine brighter than others, illuminating our path with their brilliance and warmth. Victoria was one such thread—a beacon of light, a pillar of strength, and a source of boundless love. She was not just a mother, a friend, a wife, or a diplomat; she was a force of nature, whose impact rippled through the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Today, we gather to honor her remarkable legacy and to support her family in their time of need.

Victoria lived life with an unparalleled sense of fearlessness and intentionality. As a mother, she showered her children with love, guidance, and unwavering support, nurturing them to be the best versions of themselves. As a friend, she was a constant source of laughter, wisdom, and empathy, always ready to lend an ear or a shoulder to lean on. As a wife, she embodied the true meaning of partnership and devotion, standing by her husband, Jean Bernard (JB), through every twist and turn of life's journey. And as a diplomat, she represented her country with grace, integrity, and distinction, earning accolades and admiration from colleagues and counterparts around the world.

Victoria’s sudden passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew her. While we grieve the loss of her physical presence, we also celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts and souls. In the wake of this tragedy, her family faces the daunting challenge of navigating life without her, especially her widower, JB, who now shoulders the responsibility of caring for their two beautiful boys, Jean Paul (3) and Philippe (1).

As Victoria's friends & colleagues we have created this fundraising campaign with an aim to ease the burden on Victoria’s family by providing financial support for childcare and assisting JB as he adjusts to his new role. This fundraiser is completely voluntary and we want to iterate there is no imperative to donate. Nonetheless, we wanted to do something to give Victoria's army all around the world, near & far, a chance to show our love and support for the woman we knew and loved so dearly.

The funds raised will help contribute towards the costs of childcare, education, and future college funds, ensuring that Victoria's children receive the love, care, and opportunities they deserve and that Victoria worked so hard to provide for them. We also seek to support her widower as he navigates this uncharted territory, offering him the resources and assistance he needs to cope with the loss of his beloved wife and to continue providing for his family.

Childcare costs are about $5,000 per month for the two boys. We’d like to raise 6 months of childcare fees and an additional $20,000 to go towards the boys’ future college funds. Of course, this is only a fraction, but it is the least we can do to support Victoria, as her village. All funds raised will go to JB and the boys (minus Go Fund Me’s transaction fee ~3% of each donation).

As we come together to honor the memory of our beloved Victoria, let us also rally around her family and JB, offering them the love, support, and resources they need to carry on her legacy. In the face of tragedy, it is our collective compassion and generosity that will light the way forward. Thank you for joining us in this mission to embrace Victoria's legacy and support her family in their time of need.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Victoria’s Army
