In loving memory of Vergel Amador Cariazo

On February 18th, 2022, my father, Vergel Amador Cariazo, underwent surgery to remove a mass in his kidney. The growth was not yet invasive or causing apparent issues, but his doctor recommended the procedure as a preventative measure. Unfortunately, my dad's health took a turn for the worst post-operation when he started hemorrhaging and went septic. He soon entered a vicious cycle of recovery and relapse over four months.

 

According to his doctor, the stress of the operation was too much for his heart, and it elicited a condition called "Aortic valve regurgitation." In this condition, the heart's aortic valve doesn't close tightly, resulting in some of the blood pumped out of the heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle) leaking backward. It started to affect his lungs, which would fill with liquid, ultimately leaving him reliant on oxygen support to live.

 

From mid-February until his very last day of life, June 10th, 2022, my father fought a long and hard battle for his life. His every intention was to celebrate his new grandson's (my son) 1st birthday on June 11th. But instead, it was a very sudden and devastating turn of events.

 

Vergel Amador Cariazo led a long and full life. He leaves behind his life partner, his five children and two grandsons. The family will be returning Vergel's ashes to the Philippines to be near his mother as per his wishes. We ask for your support to help cover some of the funeral expenses.

 

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday, June 15th from 12PM EST - 4PM EST at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home and Cremation Centre for family, friends and anyone who wishes to attend.
