When I think about my son, I think of his goofiness, his smile,  his laugh that's contagious, and his go getter attitude and no nonsense style. He grew into a man of many talents, he was charming and fun to be around, and  many loved him. He was a loyal friend, a great listener, a problem solver, and a lyricist with a loving heart.

Ta'Jae suffered eternally, an emotional battle in his mind, filled with trauma, anger, and self doubt. Looking at him no one would know that his mental illness would one day be the reason he doesn't breathe today.

What does mental illness look like? Happy like my son. We don't know what a person is going through, we must be kind. 

The last video taken of him was up beat and fun, him enjoying one of his favorite songs. Some few hours later he was found dead - he killed himself.

My heart bleeds not only for Ta'Jae but for all the families losing their children from an illness that can not readily be recognized.

As much as I love and miss him, I find peace in the fact that he is no longer suffering from a silent killer. With my heart heavy I continue to pray for strength and the support of friends, family, and loved ones. 

It might be too late for  Ta'Jae, but I will not be silent - our kids deserve better. Please be kind, show up and show support towards his life and to help save the lives of others.
