In Loving Memory of Susan Sisgundo, Our Nurse Hero

Donation protected
Susan Sisgundo was a dedicated Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Bellevue Hospital in NYC since 2014. She was a true modern day hero for her dedication and commitment to her patients.

Susan passed away after an 8 day battle with COVID-19 at 11:11am (EST) on 04/08/2020  - one month before her 51st birthday, which she intended to celebrate with her family in Bicol.

Susan was a valued and friendly coworker. She was a team player; always willing to work day time, night time, overtime, and weekends.  She always went out of her way to greet people. We can all still hear and see her frequent laugh and smile, and appreciate her efforts to connect with everyone.  She was a trusted confidant that could protect a friendship, keep a secret, and honor a debt. She wanted everyone to share in any potential joy. She will be missed beyond measure. As time goes by, we will focus more on her life, not just her untimely death. We will celebrate that life, the joy she brought us, her co-workers, and our patients. Her life will be her legacy. The pain of the recent tragedy will fade and the abundance of the gifts she brought to all of us, will be what we will cherish and recall.

The NNICU nurses at Bellevue hospital are organizing this fund, knowing that many friends and colleagues wish to contribute to ease the burden of her family from her sudden and unexpected passing. These funds will help cover the costs for Susan's cremation and funeral expenses as well as costs associated with managing her personal affairs and reuniting her with her family in the Philippines.

*Words for Susan inspired from eulogy written by Dr. Brian Koffman in 2012.

Update 06/16/2020:
On behalf of Susan's Family, I want to extend my thanks at the generosity of all the people who have donated to this campaign in memory of our dearest Susan. This has been a very difficult time to process how we are feeling and learning to navigate our emotions in this new world is something we work on every day. Susan's family has designated Lowelia Avellana as their representative here in the United States to handle all of Susan's affairs. She is the designated beneficiary who will ensure that your donations are sent back to the Philippines and are utilized as directed by Susan's immediate family.
